Shaina

Shaina came to Happy Horizon's Children Ranch as a teenager who had endured years of abuse and sexual assault from her own father. Her mother knew what was happening but didn’t try to step in for fear that her husband would leave her alone to care for their four children. Shaina's mother didn’t go to the police for the same reason: she knew that if her husband were arrested, her children would have no food and no future.

But when Shaina became pregnant with her father’s child, friends and neighbors intervened and reported the situation to the police. She and her siblings were brought to HHCR, a case was filed against the father, and he spent the rest of his life in prison. 

Shaina gave her baby up for adoption. She finished high school and went on to graduate from college with a degree in elementary education. Today, she is a teacher at a local elementary school. Shaina is now married and has four children of her own now!

She has learned her true value and worth in the eyes of God, and she has joy because of His love. Now, Shaina passes on that unconditional love to her family and the children she teaches, many of whom come from similar abusive situations.
