HOPE STARTS HERE STORIES
Claudia
Claudia didn’t fully understand what she had gotten into, nor did she consider herself a victim at first.
The psychological toll, however, was overwhelming.
She had grown up in a Christian environment, living a normal life, working each day. But everything changed when her sister took her own life. Claudia believes that was the root of all the pain she later experienced. She left her job and the life she knew behind, and most significantly, she drifted away from God and lost hope.
In an attempt to try something new, without knowing what awaited her, Claudia soon found herself in a completely different and dangerous situation. She was in a foreign country where she knew no one, had no family, and no support system. The only people she had were the ones who had brought her there, but they quickly informed her she owed them a debt, one she would have to pay back no matter what.
As the reality of her situation set in, Claudia was told she had the “option” to find another job. These types of organizations often operate in secret, moving victims between multiple locations to avoid police detection, making them almost invisible.
She felt trapped, knowing that while some of their operations were monitored, it was nearly impossible to see what was happening behind closed doors. Inside, the victims were under tight control. They took Claudia’s passport, leaving her unable to leave or escape. She was monitored 24/7, rarely allowed outside, and her every move was dictated by her captors.
Doing something out of obligation or because you’re forced to is incredibly difficult. Claudia found herself praying to God, begging Him to get her out of that situation because she couldn’t endure it any longer. One week later, the police knocked on her door. They had been conducting an investigation and were finally legally able to enter the building she worked from.
She knew it was the answer to her prayers. The police told her what crimes had been committed against her and put her in touch with a Project Rescue social worker. For Claudia, this organization became the greatest blessing from God.
They invited her to come stay at a local Project Rescue partner's safe home. Her escape wasn’t instant; it took time, and each step toward healing was difficult. But with their support, Claudia now has everything she needs. She found her way back to the Lord. When she had nothing, God provided her with everything.
Today, she works as a social worker, using her testimony to help many women, showing them that there’s always a chance to start over. She’s now doing for others what was once done for her in her time of greatest need.
It’s something priceless, something truly beautiful.
