STORY OF HOPE

Amy’s Story of Survival

Experiencing true freedom in God

Amy, a beautiful young woman from Africa, was deceived into coming to Europe with promises of a new job as a nanny. She was assured an exciting new life and a good salary that would allow her the opportunity to send money to her impoverished family that remained in Africa. Wanting to help her family as much as she could, she agreed to take the job in Europe.

She was taken on a perilous journey throughout northern Africa and the European coast that lasted months. During this time, she was forced to go days without food or water, witnessing many of the women around her die from illness and thirst. During this trip, she was beaten and raped by her captors. After arriving at their final destination, Amy was finally told the truth about why she was taken to Europe: she was to work as a prostitute.

“What could I do?” Amy cries as she tells her story.

“They told me I had to pay back 50,000 Euros ($61,000) for the journey and if I didn’t they would kill my family and me.”

She was constantly subjected to beatings, threats and voodoo rituals. At one point she became pregnant, and was drugged so that she would miscarry. The bleeding was so much that she almost died.

One day, Amy was found by the local police and she was referred to a Project Rescue home that was nearby. She was afraid, insecure, and in need of physical, emotional, and spiritual healing due to all of the trauma that she had experienced.

Thanks to the love and care she received at the home, and as a result of a transformational relationship with God, Amy is now a new woman. She has been baptized, has studied new languages, and graduated from the Project Rescue program. She now continues to work with Project Rescue on staff as a social mediator, helping girls who have experienced similar situations of exploitation. She was even able to bravely testify against her traffickers in court, allowing multiple people to be sent to prison.

Amy’s face continues to glow with the true joy of knowing God and experiencing freedom in Him!
