HOPE STARTS HERE STORIES

Sonia

AT ONLY 13 YEARS OLD, SONIA RAN AWAY AND NEVER LOOKED BACK.

Sonia was once an innocent little girl with a bright future, but this was stripped from her when her mother died, leaving her father to remarry a woman who physically and verbally abused her. Sonia suffered so much that–rather than stay in a home of hurt– she risked the unknown of running away.

She left with nothing other than the clothes of her small form. Shortly after coming to a city in Southern Asia, she met a woman who took her in and cared for her. For the first time since her mother had died, Sonia felt safe and loved

It wasn’t until it was too late that Sonia learned the bitter truth...the woman’s “love” for her was all a lie. She had simply been waiting for the right time to sell Sonia into prostitution.

Confused and devastated, Sonia’s life became something unbearable. At thirteen, she had her first customer. Sonia cried and pleaded with the man. But like the men who would use her for the next several years, Sonia was little more than an object of pleasure in his eyes.
Years passed, and she lost all hope of escape and succumbed to accepting the fact that this would be her life.

She dared to hope life might change when she met a man who proposed and married her. She never dreamed someone would want to marry her after how she had been used. But her life after marriage simply turned into yet another shattered dream as her life in the sex trade continued.

Her own husband would sell her to his friends, then to men on the street. Betrayal and hurt continued when she was sold to another brothel.

After eight more long months in this brothel, Sonia risked the consequences and fled. She escaped the brothel and met our Project Rescue team.

She was more than ready to embrace freedom and share that freedom with other women in the red-light district. Almost right away, Sonia unofficially began outreach work, going to her fellow “sisters” in the sex trade and offering them a way out through Project Rescue.

Sonia has brought over 40 prostituted women into our program. Pray that Sonia can continue her work to help her sisters find hope

Your gift today can help this good work continue so that we might see God continue to miraculously save and change lives just like He did with Sonia.
