HOPE STARTS HERE STORIES

Lanfen

Lanfen’s childhood was full of death and darkness.

Lanfen began to open up about her life after our team visited her family. She shared the story of her grandmother, who had been brought from a neighboring country to work in the red light district. This grim legacy of exploitation cast a long shadow over Lanfen’s life.

Lanfen's mother struggled to cope with the hardship of raising a family as a prostitute. Seeking escape, she left the family and ran away with another man who had been a former client. This abandonment left Lanfen and her brother in the care of their handicapped grandmother, struggling to survive in the red-light area. These children were left vulnerable, without protection or resources, in an environment that offered little hope for a better future.

Seeing their dire circumstances, our team offered to provide Lanfen with an education, believing it could lead to a brighter future. Lanfen soon joined our school, where she began to thrive. She showed a keen eagerness to learn and grow, finding joy in attending classes and playing with other children.

However, after some months, her grandmother, overwhelmed by the challenges of caring for Lanfen and her brother alone, came to the school and took Lanfen away. She stopped sending her to our center, cutting off the little girl’s access to education and support.

Despite this setback, our team prayed for Lanfen and her family, holding onto hope for her return. During this time, young Lanfen was forced to take on adult responsibilities. She was forced to cook food and care for her grandmother and brother. The next time we saw her, she was on the street, her small hands burned, and her eyes filled with tears. It was a heart-wrenching sight that spurred us into action.

After much prayer and persistent effort, we were finally able to convince her grandmother to surrender Lanfen to our care. With a heavy heart, her grandmother agreed, understanding that this was the best chance for Lanfen to escape the cycle of suffering that had plagued their family for generations.

Today, Lanfen is back in school, continuing to learn and grow in a safe environment. She is now eight years old, a safe and happy little girl. Her smile, once overshadowed by the weight of her circumstances, now shines brightly. She plays freely with her friends, enthusiastically embraces her studies, and dreams of a future filled with possibilities.

Lanfen's story is a powerful testament to the transformative power of education, love, and unwavering support. It reminds us of the profound impact that compassionate intervention can have on the lives of vulnerable children.
