Trafficking Trends

  • Ninety percent of India’s trafficking problem is internal, and those from the most disadvantaged social strata are most vulnerable.
  • Indian women and children are generally trafficked to China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Uganda and the United States.
  • Experts estimate that millions of women and children are victims of sex trafficking in India.
  • A large number of Nepali, Afghan, and Bangladeshi females – the majority of whom are children aged nine to 14 years old… are subjected to sex trafficking in India.
  • Children continue to be subjected to sex trafficking in religious pilgrimage centers and tourist destinations.
