What is Distinct About Our Work?

Unlike political advocacy groups, Project Rescue is a ministry focused on transformational aftercare of rescued women and girls. To us, the rescue process begins when a victim is freed from the brothel. It is considered complete only when she is emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy enough to begin a new life on her own. This holistic view of Rescue includes providing a place of physical safety, medical care, counseling, literacy and vocational training, and spiritual development.

Restoring hope to a victim of forced prostitution can take several years given the devastating effects of long-term sexual exploitation. Without holistic aftercare, victims generally return to the darkness of sex slavery, as that is the only life they know.

There are a number of other excellent international organizations engaging the human trafficking issue in diverse spheres of influence. The Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAAST) is a group of faith-based, community-oriented, non profit organizations committed to the eradication of trafficking and slavery worldwide. Lisa Thompson, liaison for the abolition of human trafficking at The Salvation Army National Headquarters, is spearheading political advocacy in Washington, D.C. to pressure the U.S. government and other nations' leadership to provide rights for trafficking victims and enforce laws to prosecute perpetrators. The International Justice Mission focuses on using legal means to address the trafficking issue and conducts raids to free exploited victims from brothels in Asia. Each is engaged on different but critically needed fronts in the global campaign against sex trafficking.
