Kay Burnett Passionate, Optimistic, Sometimes Absentminded…

Age: 46

Occupation: Part-time Administrative Assistant for our church; Full-time Pastor’s wife

Childhood Ambition: To be a pediatrician or commercial pilot

One thing about yourself that would surprise people: I love to fly and some day I would like to complete my private pilot’s license.

Favorite Family Ritual: The way we celebrate Christmas morning. First, we read the story of Christ’s arrival in Luke, we pray, and then we pass around our gifts one at a time, letting each person open a gift while we watch. It really prolongs the wonderful moment and makes it that much more special. Afterward, we eat the same decadent breakfast every year: cinnamon rolls, bacon and eggs, Jim’s biscuits and gravy, etc. Every year, I just can’t wait!

Most prized object: Poems Jim wrote to me 20 years ago, notes and letters from my loved ones, my palm pilot.

The most important lesson for young people to learn: The little choices we make daily are what really add up to determine what our lives will be.

How and why did you become involved with Project Rescue?
Beth spoke at our WM District Retreat a couple of years ago, and David spoke at our District Council Missions banquet. They both stirred in me a deep desire to help. I am one of 5 sisters, I have a daughter and daughter-in-law, 3 granddaughters, and my sister’s grandchildren (9 in all) are all GIRLS! Hearing the stories of how much girls and women are devalued and exploited in the international sex-trade industry just pierced my heart! I want to make a difference.
